Electronic Attack Squadron 133 returns from deployment
Sailors, assigned to Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 133, returned to their home base at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island following a 10-month deployment, as part of the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group (ABECSG), to the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of operation, Oct. 1.
The squadron deployed with Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 9, embarked aboard Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72), Nov. 21, 2025.
During their time in U.S. 5th Fleet, VAQ-133 played a vital role in supporting U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) objectives. Flying the EA-18G Growler, the squadron conducted 2,284 flight hours in the execution of 1,190 sorties, including 720 combat hours.
“I could not be prouder of this team and all they have accomplished,” said Cmdr. Ian Chamberlin, commanding officer of VAQ-133. “They executed a demanding 10-month deployment across multiple theaters, maintained the highest standards of safety and readiness, and never lost focus on the mission or each other.”
In addition to operational accomplishments, the deployment included brief stops in Guam and Duqm, Oman, as well as a port visit to Laem Chabang, Thailand, offering Sailors a chance to recharge and experience diverse cultures while supporting U.S. partner nations.
The squadron was led by Chamberlin and Executive Officer, Cmdr. Bradford Broderson.
Operating the most advanced aircraft in the U.S. inventory, CVW-9 is a next-generation, multi-platform air wing, enabling mobile naval air power projection and forward operational presence. The nine squadrons in the air wing are Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 314; the F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet squadrons Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 14, VFA-41 and VFA-151; Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 133; Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 117; Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 71; Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 14; and Fleet Logistics Multi-Mission Squadron (VRM) 30.
The Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group consists of flagship Abraham Lincoln, embarked staffs of Carrier Strike Group 3 and Destroyer Squadron 21, CVW-9, Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Frank E. Petersen Jr. (DDG 121) serving as the integrated air and missile defense commander, and DESRON 21’s Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Spruance (DDG 111) and USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112).
Spruance and Michael Murphy remain underway in the U.S. 7th Fleet and U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations supporting global maritime security operations.
